If the source material is hardwood, they can have a higher mineral content, creating more ash. Fuels containing bark will also have higher ash content.

Thermostat Calls For Heat The appliance is like most modern furnaces; when the thermostat calls for heat, your appliance will automatically light and deliver heat. When the room is up to temperature and the thermostat is satisfied, the red call light will shut off and the appliance will shut down.

Fire Characteristics A properly adjusted fire with the heat output control switch set on “HIGH” has a short active flame pattern that extends out of the firepot approximately 4 to 6 inches (102-105mm). If the fire has tall flames with black tails and seems somewhat lazy, the feed rate will need to be reduced.
