Variable-Ratio Power Steerin
Variable-ratio power steering affords virtually effort-
less handling in getting into and out of tight places,
yet maintains a reassuring feel of the road. While
there is a reduction in steering wheel movement for
all maneuvering, there is a major reduction in the
number of steering wheel revolutions necessary to
turn the front wheels lock-to-lock. Standard on ail
models except the Seventy-Fives.
Cadillac's smooth, almost effortless, finger-tip
steering is further aided by the use of a flexible
rubber coupling in the steering column and rubber
bushings at steering gear-to-frame mountings. This
helps absorb road shocks and vibration before they
reach the steering wheel.

A. The independent front and rear braking system,
pioneered by Cadillac, incorporates separate
fluid reservoirs, pistons and hydraulic lines for
each system. Should a malfunction occur in
either system, a red telltale light on the instru-
ment cluster alerts the driver, but the other
system remains operative.
The parking brake is foot-operated and may b&
used under emergency conditions as an auxiliary
braking system. It may be applied and released
