TIRE
MAINTENANCE
Make sure the ai
r
pressu res in all the tires, including
the spare, are checked frequently. But check them
when the tires are relatively cool. The pressures
normally increase as the tires heat up from fast
driving, especially during the summer months, but
they'll return to normal as the tires cool down. So
don't "bleed" air from the tires when they're hot to
get
the
ri ght
pressu res. The recommended cold
pressu
res
for your
Falcon's tires are listed
on
page
47.
In addition to kee ping the tires properly inflated,
certain
other precautions
should be taken to get
maximu
m tire
life.
-
Inspect the tire treads regularly for nails,
stones, and other objects that may cut into
the rubber.
-
Avoid driving over curbs, holes, or sharp
objects that may bruise the
tires.
-
Slow down on the curves, avoid skidding or
spinning the wheels.
To equalize tire wear, cross-switch all five tires after
each 4000-8000 miles of driving, following the pattern
ill ustrated on this
page.
It's also a good idea to have
all the tires and wheels checked occasionally for
proper
balance.
And if the tires seem to be wearing
unevenly or faste
r
than they should, have the front
wheel
alignment
of your Falcon checked as soon as
possible.
