2.2 Front Panel

The front panel of t he Swit ch includes t he aut o- negot iat ing 10 Base-T/ 100 Base-TX/ 1000 Base-T
RJ- 45 port s and t he LEDs.
The GS1100- 24 and GS1100- 10HP have t wo SFP slot s. Refer t o
inform at ion.
2.2.1 RJ-45 Auto-negotiating Ports
The 10 Base-T/ 100 Base-TX/ 1000 Base-T RJ- 45 port s are aut o- negot iat ing and aut o- crossover.
An aut o- negot iat ing port can det ect and adj ust t o t he opt im um Et hernet speed ( 10/ 100/ 1000
Mpbs) and duplex m ode ( full duplex or half duplex) of t he connect ed device.
An aut o- crossover ( aut o- MDI / MDI -X) port aut om at ically works wit h a st raight- t hrough or crossover
Et hernet cable.

2.2.2 IEEE 802.3az EEE

The Swit ch support s t he I EEE 802.3az EEE ( Energy Efficient Et hernet ) st andard t o help reduce
power consum pt ion. This allows t he Swit ch t o go int o power saving m ode and swit ch off part of
receive and t ransm it circuit ry when it is not t ransm it t ing or receiving dat a t hrough an Et hernet
connect ion.
An EEE- enabled device init iat es Low Power I dle ( LPI ) signals t o negot iat e and wake up t he rem ot e
device when t here is dat a t o be t ransm it t ed. To use EEE, bot h devices should be EEE com pliant .
EEE is configured on a per- syst em basis in t he Swit ch. I f one of t he net working devices t hat
connect t o t he Swit ch doesn't support EEE, EEE m ay not work in t he Swit ch t o save power.
Press in t he I EEE 8 0 2 .3 a z EEE ON / OFF but t on on t he front panel t o t urn on t he EEE feat ure.

2.2.3 SFP Slots (GS1100-24 and GS1100-10HP)

These are slot s for Sm all Form - fact or Pluggable ( SFP) t ransceivers. A t ransceiver is a single unit
t hat houses a t ransm it t er and a receiver. The Swit ch does not com e wit h t ransceivers. You m ust use
t ransceivers t hat com ply wit h t he Sm all Form - fact or Pluggable ( SFP) Transceiver Mult iSource
Agreem ent ( MSA) . See t he SFF com m it t ee's I NF- 8074i specificat ion Rev 1.0 for det ails.
You can change t ransceivers while t he Swit ch is operat ing. You can use different t ransceivers t o
connect t o Et hernet swit ches wit h different t ypes of fiber- opt ic or even copper cable connect ors.
To avoid possible eye injury, do not look into an operating fiber-optic
module's connectors.
Type: SFP connect ion int erface
Connect ion speed: 100 Megabit per second ( Mbps) or 1 Gigabit per second ( Gbps)
