This sect ion provides t wo net work t opology exam ples in which t he Swit ch is used.

1.3.1 Standalone Workgroup

I n t his applicat ion, t he Swit ch is an ideal solut ion for sm all net works where rapid growt h can be
expect ed in t he near fut ure.
The Swit ch can be used st andalone for a group of heavy t raffic users. You can connect com put ers
direct ly t o t he Swit ch's port or connect ot her swit ches t o t he Swit ch.
I n t his exam ple, all com put ers can share high- speed applicat ions on t he server. To expand t he
net work, sim ply add m ore net working devices such as swit ches, rout ers, com put ers, print servers
et c.

1.3.2 Bridging

Wit h it s large address t able and high perform ance, t he Swit ch is an ideal solut ion for depart m ent
net works t o connect t o t he corporat e backbone or for connect ing net work segm ent s.

environm ent . The t wo net works ( R& D and Sa le s) , t he st andalone server and t he com put ers can all
com m unicat e wit h each ot her and share all net work resources.
