The shaded areas show the following logical combinations of regions.
AND
Events which are in both regions A AND region B. This is written as A AND B.
OR
Events that are in region A OR in region B. This is written as A OR B.
XOR
Events, that are EXCLUSIVELY in region A OR in region B, but NOT in both. This is written as A XOR B.
