Installing M.2 Key-M Socket 3 Devices

Securing an M.2 device to the motherboard requires a few extra steps compared to other
current drive or slot-based connectors. M.2 devices used on this motherboard - Socket
3 (for SSDs) and Socket 1 (for WiFi/Bluetooth) – are installed differently.
Socket 3 devices require you to first remove the I/O cover over the lower half of the
board to gain access to the Socket 3 slots, install your Key-M device(s), and then replace
the cover.
Below are images from an installation of an SSD on a Socket 3 Key-M 110mm and
80mm slot.
1. Locate the three screws holding down the
removable plate on the heatsink, which
covers the Socket 3 slots.
2. Using a Phillips #1 screwdriver, remove each screw and carefully set these aside for
now. Lift up the plate and set aside, as well.
