Coolingfluidlevel (03_15, 03_16, 03_17)

The engine cooling system is of the forced liquid circulation type. The coolant circuit
contains approx. 1.8 litres of coolant consisting of a mixture of 50% demineralised
water and glycol ethylene-based antifreeze solution with corrosion inhibitors. Recom-
mended coolant, supplied with already mixed and ready for use fluid. For proper
functioning of the engine, the coolant temperature must be between the 4th and 7th
lit segment, as indicated by the instrument «B» on the digital instrument panel. When
the 9th lights up, the icon and all the segments start flashing; stop the engine, let it
cool down and check the fluid level; if the result is normal, take your vehicle to an
Authorised Piaggio Service Centre.
The fluid level must checked every 10,000 kilometres with a cold engine, in the way
shown below:
03_15
a) Place the scooter in a vertical position on the stand.
b) Remove the expansion tank cover "A", turning in anticlockwise direction.
c) Look inside the expansion tank; reference «C» shows the adequate coolant level.
d) If the coolant level is below reference «C», proceed to top-up when the engine is
cold.
If it is necessary to top up the coolant frequently or if the expansion tank is completely
empty, the cause has to be found in the cooling system. It is therefore essential to
have the cooling system checked at an Authorised Piaggio-Gilera Service Cen-
tre. The coolant should be changed every 2 years. Take your vehicle to an Authorised
03_16
Piaggio-Gilera Service Centre for this operation.
N.B.
SHOULD THE 9th SEGMENT OF THE COOLANT TEMPERATURE INDICATOR
COME ON DURING A NON-DEMANDING RIDE, SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND LET
IT COOL DOWN. THEN CHECK THE COOLANT LEVEL; IF THE LEVEL IS OK,
CONTACT AN AUTHORISED SERVICE CENTRE.
