MINOR TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
The
following
procedures may be
of
help jf
any of
the problems listed
below occur.
These
suggestions
are only
intended
as emergency
measu res.
If
you
are
in doubt whether the
problem
is
fully
corrected. see
your Mazda dealer
as soon
as
possible.
Minor
pro·
blems may become
serious,
if
neglected.,
ENGINE Will NOT START
IF THE ENGINE WILL
NOT
TURN OVER
,
inspect
these
.
items:
1. Ign,(tion
switch.
2. Fuses, including master fuse in engine
compartment.
3. Battery
and
connections.
4. Cable
connections
to
starter and solenoid.
5. Automatic transmission
selector,
to
see
if it is
in
neutral or
park.
IF ENGINE TURNS OVER, BUT WILL NOT
START,
inspect these
items:
1. Fuel
gauge,
to
see
if
tank is
empty.
2. Ignit ion
system
- distributor leads, coils,
breaker
points (California vehicles only), ignition timing.
3. Spark plugs.
4. Carburetor for flooding and fl.l.el
supply
to
car·
buretor.
5. Choke mechanism
.
6.
Battery.
7.
EGR control
valve.
8. PCV valve.
9. Valve
train.
10.
Anti·afterburn
valve.

ENGINE WILL START, BUT .....
IF THE
OIL
PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT
COMES
ON,
inspect
these
items:
1. Engine
oil
level.
2.
El ectric
circuit and switch.
IF THE ALTERNATOR WARNING LIGHT COMES
ON, inspect these items:
1. Fan
belt,
to see
if it
is broken
or
needs adjustment.
2. Alternator and
vOltage
regulator.
3.
Battery
and connections.
IF
STALLING OCCURS WHILE
IDLING,
inspect
these items:
1.
Carburetor
idle
speed
adjustment.
2.
Choke
mechanism.
3. Carburetor for flooding
and
fuel
supply
to
car·
buretor.
4. Spark plugs.
5. Evaporative
emissio
n
control system.
IF IDLING IS ROUGH

1. Air cleaner.
2. Choke mechanism
