Symptom
Fault indicator for drive is on
(amber).
Drives with duplicate SCSI IDs
are missing from the show
config display.
Drives appear intermittently in
show config display.
Valid drives are missing from the
show config display.
One drive may appear seven
times on the configuration screen
display.
You cannot access the software
or data on the drive.
Activity indicators do not come
on.
Drive is missing from the show
config display.

startup or when storage devices are missing from the show config display.

Problem
Drive has failed.
Duplicate SCSI IDs (when
removable-media bus is
extended to StorageWorks
shelf).
SCSI bus length exceeded.
SCSI ID is set to 7 (reserved
for host ID).
Duplicate host Ids on a shared
bus.
The SCSI ID of the drive is
not unique or the SCSI drive
cables are connected
incorrectly.
The SCSI drive is faulty.
Missing or loose cables.
Drive is not properly seated.
Action
Replace the drive.
Correct removable-media
SCSI device IDs.
Check cabling.
Correct the SCSI IDs.
Change host ID through
the pk*0 host id
environment variable (set
pk*0_host_id).
For systems using
Windows NT, choose "Set
default configuration" from
the Setup menu to select
the host ID.
See Chapter 6,
"Configuring Your
System" for information on
SCSI device configuration
display. If the device is
not listed in the display,
check the SCSI cabling and
the drive's SCSI ID.
Contact your service
representative.
Remove device and inspect
cable connections.
Reseat drive.
