Automatic card translation does not take place if the BCT button on the Computer Console Panel is in the
"on" position. Each card column is then split into two groups of six bits each, a parity bit is generated and ad ed
to each group, and the resultant two characters are transferred into HSM.
The character represented by rows 9 through 4 in column 1 (row 9 = 2
location specified by the A Register. Successive characters representing rows 9 through 4 are also read into memory
with column 80 being placed at (A), + 79- T he character represented by column 1, rows 3 through Y (row 3 - 2
Y = 2°) is read into HSM at (A), + 80. Successive characters representing rows 3 through Y are likewise read
row
into HSM with column 80 being placed at (A)i + 159. The final A Register setting is (A), + 160.
