Diverted Exhaust Gas Flow

• With the bypass valve open, a portion of
the exhaust gases bypass the high-
pressure turbine. The gases pass through
the bypass valve opening and through a
port cast into the high-pressure turbine
housing. The exhaust flow exits at the inlet
to the low-pressure turbine.

Exhaust Bypass Valve

• The path that exhaust takes through the
twin turbochargers is affected by the
position of the exhaust bypass valve
located under the metal plate on the top of
the high-pressure turbine housing. With
the bypass valve open, a portion of the
exhaust enters the low-pressure turbine
housing directly, bypassing the high-
pressure turbine.
