Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 213:
Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard that pertains to all
restraint systems intended for use as crash protection in
vehicles for children. Required for child restraints sold in
the USA.
Headrest: Structure at the top of the backrest which is
designed to keep the child's head in the proper position and
provide protection for the child's head during a crash.
LATCH: Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren. Acronym
for standardized vehicle anchorage system. Method to affix
child restraint systems to vehicles independent of the vehicle
seat belts.
LATCH Anchors: Two small metal bars that can be found in
the space where the rear seat back meets the seat cushion.
LATCH Connectors: Two push-on style hooks located on
the base. They are used to attach to the lower anchors on the
vehicle seat and removable by pushing the red button.
Side Impact Protection (SIP): Extra safety feature of
RECARO child restraints having energy absorbing foam and
structure design strategically placed in areas on the child
restraint where it is especially important to protect the child in
a crash.
