5. Insert the straight edge of the new memory module shield into the hole as shown. Then, pivot it
downward until it snaps into position.

Replacing a memory module

Attention: Do not open your computer or attempt any repair before reading and understanding the Chapter
1 "Read this first: Important safety information" on page 1.
Note: If you have two memory modules, ensure that you install the memory modules first into the lower
memory slot and then the upper one.
To replace a memory module, do the following:
1. Remove any media from the drives and turn off all connected devices and the computer. Then,
disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the
computer.
2. Remove the back cover. See "Removing the back cover" on page 90.
3. Remove the memory module shield to expose the memory module. See "Replacing the memory
module shield" on page 91.
4. Open the retaining clips and gently pull the memory module out of the memory slot.
