Intelligent printing

A-61848 / TWAIN October 2016
Some Kodak Scanners support intelligent printing which allows the
scanner to digitally or physically print unique numbers on each
document that is batch scanned. For example, if you are feeding
batches of documents where each document is a group of pages that
needs to have a unique Document Locator number physically printed
on the page, Intelligent Printing allows you to do this. There are three
options available with Intelligent Printing.
1. Patch counting: the Kodak i5x50, i5x50S, and i5x50V Scanners
have options that when you are printing the scanner counter on your
images/pages, you can have the counter incremented for every
page scanned or only when a page with a patch pattern is scanned.
You can also select a patch type as a document separator sheet
and reset the counter by using a different patch page. The
limitations when using the patch Counting option are that the
printing is also printed on the pages with the patch pattern and the
patch pages you use must be printed with the patch bars in the
vertical orientation. There is no metadata included in the patch
images to indicate that it was read as a patch page.
IMPORTANT: Some combinations of patch usage and intelligent
printing, or indexing and intelligent printing, are complex
to set up correctly. It is possible to set up printing so it
looks correct — but image header information will not
match the print string information if other setup is not
correct. You risk unexpected results, if you use the
following combinations.
• Patch Counting with Indexing is challenging to set up. If you
are having problems with synchronization of counters
between the printed page values and the host software
counter values, you may have inadvertently configured your
scanner for Patch Counting and Indexing.
• If you intend to use indexing, your TWAIN print format string
should probably NOT contain the value Counter.
• If you intend to use patch counting, your TWAIN print format
string should probably NOT contain the values:
"Indexing: Document"
"Indexing: Sheet"
"Image Address:Fixed"
"Image Address:Level 3"
"Image Address:Level 2
"Image Address:Level 1"
