This section describes likely causes of and possible solutions for the error messages that appear on the
control panel.
• If a message not described here appears, take necessary solutions specified by the message. For
details about how to turn off the main power switch, see "Turning On/Off the Power", About This
Machine.
Message
"Authentication has failed."
"Authentication has failed."
"Cannot detect original size.
Select scan size."
"Cannot find the specified
path. Please check the
settings."
"Captured file exceeded
max. number of pages per
file. Cannot send the scanned
data."

Cause
The entered login user name
or password is not correct.
The machine cannot perform
authentication.
The machine cannot detect
the size of the original.
The destination computer
name or folder name is
invalid.
The job contains too many
pages to be scanned and
sent as a single large file.
Solution
Contact your user administrator for the
correct login user name and password.
Contact the administrator.
• Place the original correctly.
• Specify the scan size.
• If you place the original directly on
the exposure glass or in the ADF,
the automatic original size
detection process starts. Lift the ADF
by more than 30 degrees.
Check that the computer name or the
folder name for the destination is correct.
Separate the job and send it as multiple
smaller files. See "Storage function",
Scanner Reference.
