6 SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) (if
equipped)
The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) includes air bags, pre-
tensioners and ECU. The air bags are designed to provide further
protection to the vehicle occupants in addition to the primary
protection provided by the seat belts and seat belt pre-tensioners.
The primary components of the system are the sensors which
measure the crash severity. In the event of a significant frontal
impact, the SRS airbags inflate to work in conjunction with the seat
belts and help reduce injuries mainly to the driver's or front
passenger's head/chest.
Seat belts are the primary restraint system in the vehicle. An
airbag provides supplemental protection in addition to the seat
belts.
All occupants, including the driver, should always wear their
seat belts irrespective of presence of airbags to minimize the
risk of severe injury in the event of a crash.
Air bags are more effective in reducing injuries when the seat
belts are worn.
