  • Page 9 4.1 Installation of the AUDIO 8 DJ Before you can use the AUDIO 8 DJ, you need to install its driver first. The driver handles communication between the AUDIO 8 DJ hardware and your computer. You can configure the driver’s settings using the Settings Tool. This tool and its options are explained in chapter 7 (AUDIO 8 DJ Software).

    ► Check the NATIVE INSTRUMENTS website for information. ► Make sure that the AUDIO 8 DJ hardware is connected to an USB 2.0 port of your computer. ► Make sure you are connecting directly to an USB port of the computer and not through an USB hub.
  • Page 41 As for any other USB device, the driver installs exactly for one USB port. If you connect the AUDIO 8 DJ to another port for the first time, a standard Windows dialog opens in which you can install the driver to that new port.

  • Page 44 As a general rule of thumb, do not use the right hand USB port on a MacBook Pro: This port shares a USB root hub with the trackpad. With the AUDIO 8 DJ connected to the right port, you can encounter audio problems like clicks or dropouts whenever the trackpad is reactivated from standby mode.
  • Page 45 11.3.5 Disable USB energy saving mode (Windows only) If you are experiencing problems with the AUDIO 8 DJ causing crashes or performing badly on a Windows machine, disable power management to the USB hubs first; in Windows XP this option is switched on by default.

    If you cannot fix the ground noise problem by disconnecting equipment, you can connect a DI (Direct Injection) box after the AUDIO 8 DJ outputs. Most of these boxes have a ground lift switch on them. This can be used to break the ground loop and eliminate the noise.
