What Is a Compressor? Welcome to VC 76 The VC 76 brings one of the most renowned compressor units from the history of music into your studio by way of the FX Framework. The VC 76 perfectly re-creates the bright and punchy sound of its ancestor.

For example, a longer attack time can be useful to retain the attack transients on a percussive or plucked string instrument in order to only compress the instrument sound coming after the transients. For this, you could also make use of parallel compression (see below). VC 76 - Manual - 6...

The VC 76 The VC 76 is inspired by one of the most sought-after compression units ever made. Initially released in the mid-1960s, it was the first peak limiter with all solid-state circuitry. In particu- lar, the gain reduction was controlled by a field-effect transistor used as a variable resistor.

For example, unlike its ancestor, the VC 76 does offer both a side-chain input and paral- lel compression. And, of course, as with all effects available through FX Framework, you can save and recall presets for your favorite settings.

This section describes how to use the VC 76. The Menu Bar At the very top of the VC 76 interface, you will see the Menu bar. This is primarily used for saving and loading presets, but also has a few other functions.

  • Page 13 ▪ With the ratios 12:1 (12) and especially 20:1 (20) the compressor tends to behave like a limiter. ▪ The position ALL, at the top of the selector, was not available as such in VC 76’s ances- tor. It originates in the so-called “All-Button” mode used by many engineers. Indeed, on the hardware unit the ratios were selected via a set of buttons.
