VCA
The
voltage
controlled
amplifier
(VCA)
controls the
amplitude (volume)
of
the
sound.
It
is
used
to
produce
volume
contours (volume changes over
time)
similar to
the
timbre
or
tone
color
contours produced by
the
VCF.
There
are
9VCAs

the Trident

It
can
be
used
to
prevent
jarring
changes
in
volume
when
you
change programs
(e.g..
from
a flute

to a
massive
orchestral patch).
It
can
also
be used
to preset
"lead"
and
"rhythm" volume
changes,
if
desired.

or
both.
Con-
touring
effects
allow the
sound
of a
note
to
change and
evolve
as
time
passes.
This
evolution
in
timbre
(tonal
quality)
can
take
anywhere
from
a small part
of
a
second
to thirty
seconds or more,
and
different
parts
of
the
contour
(attack,
decay,
etc.)
can
proceed
at a different
rate.
These
effects
are
extremely
im-
portant
in
producing
expressive
sounds
-
sounds
that
are
punchy,
gentle,
sassy,
funky,
orchestral,
futuristic,
or
just
about
anything
you
want.
