Shooting Issues
Problem
Cannot switch to
shooting mode.
Cannot take
pictures or record
movies.
The camera
cannot focus.
Colored stripes
appear on the
screen when
shooting.
Images are
blurred or out of
focus.
Images of moving
subjects or
images captured
while moving are
skewed or
partially distorted.
Images appear
smeared.
Colors are
unnatural.
Randomly spaced
bright pixels ("noise")
appear in image.
Images are too
dark.

Technical Notes
Troubleshooting
Disconnect the USB cable.
When the camera is in playback mode, press the shutter-
release button.
When menus are displayed, press the d button.
The battery is exhausted.
Insert a memory card with sufficient free space.
The subject is too close.
Turn the camera off and then on again.
Colored stripes may appear when shooting subjects with
repeating patterns (such as window blinds); this is not a
malfunction.
The colored stripes will not appear in captured images or
recorded movies.
If Movie VR is set to On when recording movies, change
it to On (hybrid).
Vibration reduction or autofocus may not work properly, due
to unexpected vibration from wind or the surroundings,
even when the camera is stabilized using a tripod, etc.
Vibration reduction or autofocus may not work properly if
the direction of the camera is significantly changed during
panning shots, etc.
This is the rolling shutter effect that may occur when a CMOS
electronic shutter is used for shooting. Shooting using 4:3
(2M), 16:9 (2M), or 1:1 (2M) will reduce the effect.
The lenses are dirty. Clean the lenses.
White balance is not adjusted properly.
The subject is dark and the shutter speed is too slow or ISO
sensitivity is too high.
Adjust exposure compensation.
The subject is backlit. Try using HDR.
