L
Subwoofers serve as a support and extension for audio systems in the bass and low bass range. Normally a single
ELAC Bass 130 Active will be sufficient per Stereo- or Surround system. Almost any placement in the living room will
work, a position near a wall or into a corner -- not too close to the listening position -- is often advantageous.
L
The ELAC Bass 130 Active is universally equipped and will link directly with most audio systems. Please do first the
signal connections and then finally put the mains plug into the socket.
L
Signal connections will be done at the back without special adapters either by speaker cable (as usual with passive
speakers) or by shielded RCA type interconnects.
Please don't try to use both connection modes at the same time.
L
Usually the powered Subwoofer will be used simply as an add-on to existing main speakers.
If you use speaker cables (coming from a power amplifier) you have the choice to connect the main speakers also to
the terminals named "SPEAKER LEVEL OUT". This makes sense if the power handling of the main speakers has to
be improved for use at higher levels.
L
In each case there are two input channels (L and R). They are jointed together (added) within the Bass 130 Active for
further common processing. Stereo signals go to the corresponding marked terminals.
L
One channel signals (Mono) will be inserted/clamped to the left or right input for the present, the other channel can
be left open.
If the maximum gain should be insufficient with this arrangement or the auto switching threshold is too high for small
signals, you have to place a short bridge to the respectively other channel in order to get the same gain as in the 2
channel case. Connection diagram B3 shows this for the case of RCA interconnects.
L
When you've finished the signal connections, first bring the right small mode switch at the back into position "OFF",
then the mains plug into the socket. Now the LED at the backside panel should go to a faint red. Finally bring the
mode switch into position "AUTO" (automatic turn on by the audio signal, turn off delay approx. 15 min) or "ON"
(continuous working). After turn on the LED colour changes to green.
L
Upper frequency limit (CROSSOVER FREQUENCY) and gain (SUBWOOFER LEVEL) have to be adjusted on the
front panel. Recommended presets:
"CROSSOVER FREQUENCY" -- not too low for the start, at least 63 Hz,
with small satellites and surround systems rather 80 to 125 Hz.
L
The lower small sliding switch "POLARITY" on the back will optimise the summing of the frequency range which is
jointly reproduced by Subwoofer and main speakers. The more favorable Polarity has to be found in a listening test
at your preferred listening location and under the given conditions regarding placement and system components.
In about 60% of the situations an inverted polarity ("-") will give the more efficient addition in the crossover range.
Therefore you should use the "-" position as a preset.
L
For a complete power off (disconnection from the mains), first of all please bring the power mode switch into the
"OFF" position. About 1 sec after switch off you can pull the mains plug without turn off noises.
L
Please pay attention to the Safety Instructions
