  • Page 5 Die Bassanteile aller Eingänge werden aufaddiert und über den Subwoofer wiedergegeben. Die Eingangsschaltung ist so ausgelegt (erdfrei bzw. symmetrisch-floatend), dass sich der ELAC Subwoofer ähnlich wie ein Passiv- Lautsprecher verhält, d.h. es können ggf. auch Endstufen mit Brückenschaltung gefahrlos angeschlossen werden. Im Vergleich zu Passiv-Lautsprechern wird allerdings sehr viel weniger Strom bzw.

  • Page 8 5. AUTO ON / OFF Mit Hilfe der „AUTO ON/OFF“-Funktion lässt sich die Einschaltautomatik aktivie- ren, bzw. deaktivieren. „AUTO = ON“ ist die Normaleinstellung. Der ELAC Sub- woofer wird im Strom sparenden Stand-by-Modus gehalten (LED glimmt sehr schwach). Ein Sensor überwacht ständig die Eingänge. Sobald ein ausreichend starkes Basssignal anliegt, wird die Leistungsendstufe zugeschaltet.
  • Page 9 Zum gezielten Anheben eines bestimmten Frequenzbereiches wählen Sie eher eine etwas breitere Bandbreite (Richtung „WIDE“) und setzen Sie die Anhebung („GAIN“) behutsam ein, ansonsten wird die Klangwiedergabe schnell unnatürlich dröhnig. 7. DELAY Mit Hilfe des Parameters „DELAY“ können Sie die Verzögerungszeit einstellen, die das Musiksignal durchläuft, bevor es vom Subwoofer wiedergegeben wird.
  • Page 10 Wenn Sie die Messung starten, werden Sie zunächst aufgefordert, das Smart- phone in die Nähe der Schallaustrittsöffnung des Subwoofers zu halten (beim SUB 2050 bzw. beim SUB 2070 ist dies die Spalte zwischen Boden platte und Gehäuse), dann kann die Messung gestartet werden. Nach erfolgreicher Kalibrierung kann dann die eigentliche Raummessung erfolgen.

    Anschluss des Subwoofers Der Anschluss eines Subwoofers an die HiFi- oder Surround-Anlage erfolgt über Cinch- und/oder Lautsprecher- kabel. Die im Folgenden beschriebenen Varianten geben einen Überblick über verschiedene Anwendungsfälle. Beachten Sie in diesem Zusammenhang auch die Bedienungsanleitungen des AV-Verstärkers und der mit- verwendeten Lautsprecher.
  • Page 12 Klassische HiFi-Anlagen Standardanschluss (Stereo-Cinch) Dies ist die Standard-Anschlussvariante in Verbindung mit einem Stereo (Vor-)Verstärker. Wenn Sie den Subwoofer an den Ausgang eines Stereo-Verstärkers anschließen möchten, achten Sie darauf, dass die Ausgänge zu den Hauptlautsprechern nach wie vor Signal führen. Dies ist bei sog. PRE-OUTs in den meisten Fällen gegeben.
  • Page 13 High-End Audio Komponenten Symmetrischer Anschluss (Stereo-XLR) Diese Anschlussvariante ist für High-End Audio Komponenten vorgesehen, die einen entsprechenden Ausgang anbieten. Sofern Ihr Quellgerät symmetrische Ausgänge (XLR) anbietet, ist diese Anschlussvariante vorzuziehen, da sie klanglich die besten Resultate liefert. Die Übergangsfrequenz („CUTOFF FREQUENCY“) muss an die Hauptlautsprecher angepasst werden.
  • Page 14 Digitale Surround-Anlagen Erweiterte Anschlussvariante (Bassmanagement wird vom Subwoofer übernommen) Hierzu müssen die „SPEAKER LEVEL IN“-Anschlussbuchsen des Subwoofers mit den Lautsprecherausgängen am AV-Receiver mittels Lautsprecherkabeln verbunden werden. Die entsprechenden Lautsprecher (Center oder Main) sind dann im Menü des AV-Receivers auf „LARGE“ einzu stellen. Durch diese Anschlussvariante umgehen Sie für die Frontkanäle das Bassmanagement im AV-Receiver, was in vielen Fällen zu einem harmonischeren Klangbild im Bassbereich führt.
  • Page 15 HiFi Stereo Anlage Bassunterstützung für HiFi-Lautsprecher Die Lautsprecher erhalten das volle Signal direkt vom Verstärker, der Subwoofer dient nur als Unterstützung und Ergänzung bis in die untersten Lagen. In der Regel ist es vorteilhaft, die Übergangsfrequenz am Subwoofer nicht zu tief einzustellen, also eine deutliche Überlappung mit den Hauptlautsprechern zu erzeugen und eher den Subwoofer-Ausgangspegel etwas niedriger zu halten.

    “Tiefe Töne brauchen Raum“ - diese gängige und für Subwoofer wichtige Feststellung ist vieldeutig. Für die Praxis nützlicher sind folgende Tatsachen: Die mit nahezu vollem Pegel nutzbare Grenzfrequenz des ELAC Subwoofers liegt bei unter 30 Hz, je nach Gerät. Das entspricht schon Schallschwingungen mit einer Wellenlänge von etwa 10 Metern. Trotzdem kann Tiefbass auch in kleinen Räumen gehört werden (Extrem beispiel: Kopfhörer).

  • Page 21 3 LINE IN L/LFE - R These RCA input sockets are used to connect the ELAC Subwoofer to the stereo line output of a pre-amplifier or the “BASS” / “SUB OUT” / “LFE” output of a surround-sound amplifier/surround receiver. A standard mono line-level cable fitted with RCA plugs is used for these connections.

  • Page 24 The „AUTO ON/OFF“ function is used to activate or deactivate the auto-on function. „AUTO = ON“ is the normal setting. The ELAC subwoofer is kept in power-saving stand- by model (LED glows very dim). A sensor continuously monitors the inputs. Once a sufficiently strong bass signal is detected, the power output stage is activated.
  • Page 25 7. DELAY The “DELAY” parameter allows you to set a delay time for the music signal before it is played back through the subwoofer. This feature is particularly useful, for example, if the subwoofer has to be placed nearer to the listening position than the main loudspeakers. Increasing the delay time by 1 millisecond (“msec”) will have the same effect as moving the subwoofer approximately 33 cm further away from the listening position.
  • Page 26 When you start the measurement, you will first be asked to hold the smartphone close to the sound opening of the subwoofer (on the SUB 2050 or SUB 2070, this is the gap between the bottom plate and the cabinet). The measurement can then be started.

    Connecting the Subwoofer A subwoofer is connected to a HiFi or surround-sound system using RCA and/or loudspeaker cables. The variants described below provide an overview of the different possible applications. You should also refer to the operating instructions for the AV receiver and the other loudspeakers used in the setup. Digital surround-sound systems Standard connection LFE IN (Low Frequency Effect IN) The rear panel on most surround-sound amplifiers includes a special RCA output socket (“BASS”...
  • Page 28 Conventional HiFi systems Standard connection (stereo RCA) This is the standard connection variant used in conjunction with a stereo (pre-) amplifier. If you want to connect the subwoofer to the output from a stereo amplifier, make sure that the outputs to the main loud- speakers are still carrying signals.
  • Page 29 High-End Audio Components Symmetrical connection (stereo XLR) This type of connection is used to connect High-End audio components which offer the appropriate outputs to the subwoofer. If your source provides symmetrical outputs (XLR) this kind of connection should be preferrably used as it offers the best audio quality.
  • Page 30 Digital surround-sound systems Advanced connection variant (bass management is performed by the subwoofer) In this configuration, you must connect the “SPEAKER LEVEL IN” sockets on the subwoofer to the loudspeaker terminals on the AV receiver using loudspeaker cables. The corresponding loudspeakers (Center or Main) must then be set to “LARGE” in the menu on the AV receiver. This connection variant bypasses the bass management in the AV receiver for the front channels, which frequently results in a more harmonious soundstage across the bass range.
  • Page 31 HiFi stereo system Bass support for HiFi loudspeakers The loudspeakers receive the full signal directly from the amplifier with the subwoofer providing support and reinforcement down to the lowest frequency ranges. For best results, we recommend not setting the cutoff frequency on the subwoofer too low., i.e., creating a significant overlap with the main speakers and maintaining a moderate output level on the subwoofer.

    If you want to place objects on the ELAC subwoofer, make sure that they do not slip and that they are protected from vibrations. Many shops for car accessories sell special mats that prevent slipping.

    Thus, you may find that the rear channels perform better with a subwoofer of their own. For this, the universal connection options of the ELAC subwoofer can be used. In larger rooms, the set-up of a second or third subwoofer may also be useful, depending on the size and model.
