9 Disk replacement

StoreOnce 4700, 4500, 2900 and 2700 RAID configuration

These HPE StoreOnce Backup systems are supplied with their base storage already configured
for use. This storage comprises the disks in the storage system itself. On some models there
are dedicated disks for the operating system; on others the operating system and backup data
storage are all on the same disks.
For instructions on how to connect additional storage by adding a new capacity upgrade enclosure
(not available with the StoreOnce 2900or 2700 Backup system), please see the printed
documentation supplied with the additional storage.

Notes
4 x 2 TB in the server
This is a RAID 5 system; operating system and backup data are stored
on the same RAID Set.
This allows for a single drive failure without loss of either the backup
data or OS partitions.
6 x 4 TB in the server
The HPE StoreOnce 2900 Backup system has 6 disks in the storage
Plus 6 x 4 TB disks in
system itself; these disks (disk bays 1 to 6) are configured as a RAID
server for capacity
6 system, and the operating system and backup data are both stored
expansion
on this RAID set. Two disks can be lost out of this RAID set without
the loss of the operating system or backup data.
The HPE StoreOnce 2900 Backup system can be expanded by
installing 6 more disks in to disk bays 7 – 12; these disks are
configured as a RAID 6 system and store only backup data. Two disks
can be lost out of this RAID set without the loss of backup data.
IMPORTANT:
disks as soon as possible. If more than two disks fail out of the base
RAID set in disk bays 1 to 6 or the expanded storage RAID set in disk
bays 7 – 12, the system will fail and data will be lost.
12 x 2 TB in the
Two disks (disk 1 and 2) are dedicated for use by the operating system
server unit
and are in a mirrored configuration, such that one disk can be lost
Plus 12 x 2 TB or 12
without the system failing.
x 4 TB in capacity
The remaining 10 disks in the system are in a RAID 6 set which
expansion
contains the backup data, two disks can be lost in this system without
enclosure(s)
loss of the backup data.
Up to three 12–disk additional enclosures may be added to increase
the backup data capacity, also RAID 6.
2 x 1 TB in the server
The two disks in the server unit are dedicated for use by the operating
unit
system and are in a mirrored configuration, such that one disk can
be lost without the system failing.
Plus 12 x 2 TB in
pre-configured
One pre-configured enclosure of 12 disks is supplied with the server
storage enclosure
unit for user data; these disks are in a RAID 6 set, such that two disks
per enclosure can be lost without loss of backup data.
Plus 12 x 2 TB in
capacity expansion
Up to seven additional enclosures may be added to increase the
enclosure(s)
backup data capacity, also RAID 6. The HPE StoreOnce 4700
supports daisy chaining.
It is important to replace failed or predictive failing
