The Paramount M T right ascension axis can be locked at one of three unique orientations (Figure 18).

1. The counterweight shaft is horizontal and the optical tube assembly side of the right ascension
axis is on the west side of the pier.
2. The counterweight is oriented vertically.
3. The counterweight shaft is horizontal and the optical tube assembly side of the right ascension
axis is on the east side of the pier.
