inch) results in less power required, larger clippings, and a
poorer quality of cut. A pitch less than 8 to 11 mm (5/16 to

and a better quality of cut.

After Operation

After Operation Safety

General Safety
Clean grass and debris from the cutting units, drives,
mufflers, and engine to help prevent fires. Clean up oil
or fuel spills.
Shut off the fuel while storing or transporting the
machine (if applicable).
Disengage the drive to the attachment whenever you are
transporting or not using the machine.
Allow the engine to cool before storing the machine in
any enclosure.
Never store the machine or fuel container where there is
an open flame, spark, or pilot light, such as on a water
heater or on other appliances.
Pushing or Towing the
Machine
In an emergency, you can move the machine by actuating the
bypass valve in the variable-displacement hydraulic pump and

pushing or towing the machine.

Important: Do not push or tow the machine faster than 3
to 4.8 km/h (2 to 3 mph), because internal-transmission
damage may occur. The bypass valves must be open
whenever you push or tow the machine.
1. Raise the seat and locate the bypass valves, which are
located below the front of the fuel tank
1. Bypass valve
2. Rotate each valve 3 turns counter-clockwise to open
and allow oil to bypass internally.
Note: Do not open more than 3 turns. Because fluid
is bypassed, the machine can be slowly moved without
damaging the transmission.
3. Close the bypass valves before starting the engine.
4. Torque to 70 N∙m (52 ft-lb) to close the valve.
Important: If you must push or tow the machine in
reverse, bypass the check valve in the 4-wheel drive
manifold. To bypass the check valve, connect a hose
assembly that consists of a hose (Part No. 95-8843),
2 coupler fittings (Part No. 95-0985), and 2 hydraulic
fittings (Part No. 340-77) to the reverse-traction,
pressure-test port, located on the hydrostat, and to
the port located between ports M8 and P2 on the rear
traction manifold, located behind the front tire.
