Paper element: Replace it after every 100 operating
hours or yearly, which ever comes first.
Inspect the foam and paper elements, and replace
them if they are damaged or excessively dirty.
Note: Service the air cleaner more frequently
(every few operating hours) if the operating
conditions are extremely dusty or sandy.
Removing the Foam and Paper
Elements
1. Disengage the power take off (PTO), set the
parking brake, and turn the ignition key to off.
Remove the key.
2. Clean around the air cleaner to prevent dirt
from getting into the engine and causing
damage. Unscrew the cover nut and remove
the air cleaner cover (Figure 30).
3. Remove the air cleaner assembly (Figure 30).
4. Carefully slide the foam element off the paper
element (Figure 30).

2. Dry the element by squeezing it in a clean
cloth.
3. Put one or two ounces of oil on the element
(Figure 32). Squeeze the element to distribute
the oil.
Note: Excess oil in the foam element restricts
the air flow through the element and may reach
the paper filter and clog it.
Important: Replace the foam element
if it is torn or worn.

Cleaning the Paper Element
Note: Never try to brush dirt off the paper
element; brushing forces the dirt into the fibers.
1. Lightly tap the element on a flat surface to
remove dust and dirt (Figure 31).
2. Inspect the element for tears, an oily film, and
damage to the rubber seal.
Important: Never clean the paper
element with pressurized air or liquids,
such as solvent, gas, or kerosene. Replace
the paper element if it is damaged,
defective, or cannot be cleaned thoroughly.
