    About the Printer Driver What is a Printer Driver? A printer driver is a program that is required to print documents created with a Macintosh software application. The printer driver must be installed in the Macintosh operating system before the printer can be used.
  • Page 5 Opening the Printer Driver There may be occasions when you need to open the printer driver in order to select the media size, print method, or print quality. Access the printer driver from the applications File menu. Open the Page Setup Dialog Box Allows you to select the Media Size, Orientation, and enlarge or reduce media settings.
  • Page 6 Closing the Printer Driver Use the buttons at the bottom of the print dialog box to close the printer driver. Print button Printing is performed in line with the changes made to the settings. Cancel button Click to ignore selections, close the dialog box, and return to the previous screen of the software application.

  • Page 8 Print Dialog Box Organization The print dialog box contains panels for each function. If you click Copies & Pages menu at the top of the dialog box, you can switch between display of each panel. Use the buttons and pop-up menus on each panel to select settings. The graphics and text in the Preview area on the left side of the panel change to reflect each new setting made by selecting from a pop-up menu, clicking a button, or clicking a check box.

    Page Setup Dialog Box Organization The Page Setup dialog box contains Page Attribute and List panels. If you click the Page Attribute menu at the top of the dialog box, you can switch between the displays of each panel. Use the buttons and pop-up menus on each panel to select settings. Note The Custom Paper Size panel is displayed in Mac OS X v10.2 or later and you can print with custom paper sizes only with an operating system later than Mac OS X v10.2.3.

    Setting Media Selecting the Media In addition to Plain Paper and Glossy Paper, other media like Coated Paper, Glossy Film, etc. can be selected for print jobs. Here are some examples of media that can be selected from the Media Type list on the Main panel.

On the Page Attribute panel in the Page Setup dialog box, confirm that the enlargement/reduction has been set properly. On the Main panel of the printer driver, select the Media Type and Media Source that matches the name of the loaded media.

    Preset Selection You can store printer driver settings used for printing and use them repeatedly when desired at a later date. You can also return the printer driver to its initial settings by selecting Standard. Selecting Preset Open the Print dialog box from the software application. 2 Click the Preset menu in either panel.
  • Page 16 Storing Preset In Mac OS X v10.1, you can store settings for one print job only. If you store the settings again, the previously stored settings are deleted and the current settings are stored. In Mac OS X v10.2 or later, you can use the Save As item on the Preset menu to save settings under a name of your choosing.

    Setting Print Quality Selecting Print Quality Selecting print quality strikes the balance between the quality of the printed image and printing speed. For example, a print job set for High requires more time to print than a job set for Draft. Open the Print dialog box from the software application.

    Color Adjustment Normally colors should be adjusted in the software application, but if you see colors in the printout that do not match colors on the screen, you can perform color adjustments with the printer driver. Open the Print dialog box from the software application. 2 Display the Main panel.

    Adjusting Monochrome Printing Use the Grayscale setting to print monochrome images of color photographs captured with a scanner or digital camera. Open the Print dialog box from the software application. 2 Display the Main panel. 3 Under Color Mode, select Monochrome, and then click the Set button to open the Color Settinsgs dialog box.

Open the Print dialog box from the software application. 2 Display the Layout panel, click the Pages per Sheet menu and select the number of pages you want to print on a single sheet.

This function is convenient for printing on roll paper when you want the left and right margins to be equal. With Print Centered set off, printing is as shown at (A); with Print Centered set on, printing with cut sheets is as shown at (B) and with roll paper it is as shown at (C).
  • Page 40 Displaying a Print Preview Before Printing Before printing, a print preview lets you confirm the results of your settings. Note Displaying a print preview returns all settings with in the Print dialog box to the default settings. Open the Print dialog box from the software application. 2 Display the Main tab and then click the Preview button.

Automatic Cutting You can set the printer to cut roll paper automatically or print a guideline for cutting. Open the Print dialog box from the software application.

    Color Matching Ensures the accurate reproduction of color between devices. The Gamut, or range Color of colors, that a monitor, printer, or scanner can reproduce may not be the same. The color matching function attempts to ensure that the colors you see on the screen are the same as the colors captured with a scanner or digital camera, or printed on a printer.
  • Page 70 Color Gamut The range of colors that a device can detect or reproduce. A monitor has a wider color gamut than a printer, so a monitor can display a greater number of colors. Color profiles map the color gamut specific to a device into the color gamut of a different device, for instance monitor color gamut to printer color gamut.

    Color Balance Click the various colored buttons around adjustment grid to strengthen that color one level. Click any given color within the adjustment grid, or drag preview image to the desirable position to adjust colors as well. Color is generally adjusted from within the software application, so use this printer driver Color Balance feature only for fine adjustments.
