Engine Oil Recommendations

We recommend the use of Mercury or Quicksilver NMMA FC‑W
certified synthetic blend 25W‑40 4‑Stroke Outboard Oil for
general, all‑temperature use. If SAE 10W‑30 oil is preferred, use
Mercury or Quicksilver NMMA FC‑W certified 10W‑30 4‑Stroke
Outboard Oil. If the recommended Mercury or Quicksilver NMMA
FC‑W certified outboard oils are not available, a major brand of
NMMA FC‑W certified 4‑stroke outboard oil of similar viscosity
may be used.
When operating in temperatures above 4 °C (40 °F), we
encourage the use of NMMA FC‑W certified synthetic blend
25W‑40 4‑Stroke Outboard Oil.
IMPORTANT: The use of nondetergent oils, multi‑viscosity oils
(other than Mercury or Quicksilver NMMA FC‑W certified oil or a
major brand NMMA FC‑W certified oil), synthetic oils, low quality
oils, or oils that contain solid additives are not recommended.
