Coil Couplers Upgrade
T
his upgrade is made using kit
6-14018 .
Remove the old magnetic coupler by com-
pressing the washer and spring under the
retaining clip, then remove the clip.
Carefully release pressure on the washer and
spring to avoid launching the parts through
the air. The retaining post will then drop
down and you can remove the old couplers
armature. Pull the old coupler through the
pilot and you're ready to install your Lionel
Electrocoupler (repeat this procedure for the
other truck on your SD 60/70.
Install the new Electrocoupler by sliding
the Electrocoupler and its two wire leads
through the pilot and under the mounting
boss. Push the retaining clip post up and
install a washer then the spring and another
washer. Compress the washer and spring,

When screw is removed, pickup and plastic mount will fall off.
Plastic guard must be place under pickup or a direct short will occur.
then insert the retaining clip. Be careful
when doing this so the parts do not become
airborne, causing possible eye injury. You are
now ready to install the wiring (repeat this
procedure for the other truck on your SD
60/70).
Route the coupler leads through the frame
following the same path taken by the truck
pickup wires. Once the wires are routed,
install the coil coupler leads into the white 2
pin connector included with your upgrade
kit. See illustration below for correct installa-
tion. Plug the connector into the main cir-
cuit board at the location shown on page 17.
Finally, make sure the wires are clear of the
motor and the truck guides. Neatly bundle
them using twist ties for added protection.
Repeat this process for the other coupler,
then reinstall the cab.
