Step 4: Start the Express Setup

Set up with the Express Setup functions of NEC EXPRESS BUILDER.
"Express Setup" is a setup method for NEC
Express5800 series to smoothly configure
settings as internal parameters and status of
hardware and to install OS (Windows Server
2003) and various utilities by using the "NEC
EXPRESSBUILDER" CD-ROM which comes
with the server. Use this "Express Setup" when
using hard disk drives with their partition
setting different from those at shippment, or
when reinstalling the OS. It performs
complicated setups automatically.
Express Setup edits the information required
for the setup and saves it to a floppy disk
before the setup, to proceed a series of setup
processes. The floppy disk used here is called
[Configuration diskette].
TIPS:
[Configuration diskette] is a setup disk that stores the information set/selected during
Express Setup.
Express Setup executes all the setup process automatically, based on this information.
It is not necessary to sit by the system and check the status, during the setup. Also, if
you use the Configuration diskette that has been used last time, you can create the
same setup condition as the previous one.
Users are responsible for preparing the Configuration diskette.
You can create a parameter file in advance, by using "Configuration Diskette
Creator®" in NEC EXPRESSBUILDER.
If you create [Configuration diskette] in advance, you can skip the options that need
to be entered or selected during Express Setup. (You can create or modify the setup
information in the Configuration diskette, during Express Setup). If any computer
that is running on Windows XP/2000/Windows Server 2003 is available, it is
recommended to edit the setup information with Configuration Diskette Creator in
advance.
You cannot use the mouse in the Express Setup. Use the keyboard to proceed the
setup.
For the procedure to create a parameter file with Configuration Diskette Creator, refer to User's
Guide.
Reinstalling the OS to the hard disk drive that has been upgraded to dynamic disk
You cannot reinstall Windows Server 2003 if the existing partition of the hard disk drive that
has been upgraded to dynamic disk is still there.
