Following another vehicle too
closely
can lead to collsion.
As vehicle speeds increase,
stopping distance increases
progressively.
Be sure you have a safe stop-
ping distance between you and
the vehicle in front of you.
5. Park the motorcycle on a firm,
flat surface where it wil not fall
over.
6. Turn the ignition switch to the
"OFF" position.
7. Turn the handlebars all the
way to the left and lock the
steering for security.
8. Remove the keys.

A hot muffler can burn you.
The muffler wil be hot enoogh
to burn you for some time after
stopping the engine. .
Park the motorcycle where
pedestrians or children are not
likely to touch the muffler.
CARRYING A PASSENGER
Before you invite someone to be a
passenger on your motorcycle,
you need to
be thoroughly familiar
~ith motorcycle operation. Adjust
tire pressures and suspension
according to the Tire Pressure
and Loading section and the Sus-
pension section of this manuaL.
The passenger should always
hold onto your waist or hips,
or
ont~ the seat strap or grab bar, as
equupped. Ask your passenger
not to make any sudden move-
ments. When you lean going
around a corner, the passenger
should lean with you. The pas~
senger should always keep his or
her feet on the footrests, even
when you are stopped at a light.
To help prevent burn injuries,
warn your passenger not to con-
tact the muffler when mounting or
dismounting your motorcycle.
