requirements for gas supply piping or pressure, and it
does not change servicing procedures for the venturi/
combination fl ow system. Gas supply must be as
stated in the installation and operation manual and on
the heater rating plate. Servicing procedures for the
venturi/combustion fl ow system must be as specifi ed
in the installation and operation manual. Incorrect
adjustment of the combination gas control can cause
improper heater operation and hazardous combustion
emissions.
If it is necessary
to verify adjustment

regulator, its outlet
pressure can be
measured at the inlet
tap of the combination
gas valve, which is
immediately to the
right of the step-down
regulator.

2L-5. Adjustment of Water Pressure
Switch
The pressure switch is pre-set at the factory for
normal pool installations. Do not adjust it unless the
heater water connections are more than three feet
above or below the pool surface. If they are not in this
range, the pressure switch must be adjusted. This can
be done in the fi eld if the water connections are no
more than six feet above the pool surface and no more
than ten feet below it. For other situations, contact a
Jandy representative.
Caution
The pressure switch should be adjusted to turn the
heater off when the pump is off. Setting the switch
to close at too low of a fl ow can damage the appli-
ance.
To adjust the pressure switch, proceed as follows
(see Figure 24).
The pool fi lter must be clean before making this
adjustment. The heater does not have to be fi ring.
1. Turn the Flex Temp switch to OFF, and
make sure the pressure switch is at its lowest
setting. This is done by rotating the adjuster
counterclockwise as far as it will go.
2. Start the fi lter pump and confi rm by means of
an ohmmeter that the pressure switch closes
(if the switch fails to close, replace it with a
switch which has a lower minimum setting).
3. Turn Flex Temp switch to ON. Heater should
start.
4. Pry out the top rubber dirt plug.
5. Use a 7/32 inch Allen wrench to turn the
adjustment screw very slowly clockwise until
the heater goes off.
6. Slowly turn the pressure switch adjustment
screw counter-clockwise one-quarter turn.
The heater should come back on
7. Check the adjustment by turning the fi lter
pump OFF. The heater should shut off
immediately. If it does not, restart the fi lter
pump and repeat Steps 6 and 7. Check the
adjustment again.
8. Return the pool temperature control to the
desired temperature.
It may be necessary to repeat these steps to get
a proper setting. The switch must be set so that the
heater will not fi re unless the pump is running. If a
proper setting cannot be reached, contact the factory
service department.
2L-6. Water Temperature Rise
The Hi-E
pool heater has an internal bypass

device which accommodates a wide range of water
fl ow. Its purpose is to assure that fl ow through the
heat exchanger is adequate to provide high effi ciency
operation and prevent overheating even though fl ow
through the fi lter system may vary.
Correct water fl ow should be confi rmed upon
start-up of the heater and in most servicing situations.
If fl ow is not normal, corrections must be made to
the pool system. If the system has an external fl ow
bypass (because of very high fi lter system fl ow), it
should be adjusted to provide proper fl ow through the
heater. Flow is evaluated by determining the water
temperature rise through the heat exchanger.
Before checking temperature rise, be sure the
pool fi lter is clean. If necessary, clean the fi lter.
