PROBABLE CAUSE

TACHOMETER

Tachometer
generator/tachometer

FUEL QUANTITY INDICATOR

Fuel tanks empty
No power to indicator
or transmitter. (Pointer
stays below E).
Grounded wire.
(Pointer stays above
F).
Low voltage
Defective indicator
Defective sending unit
Defective indicator
Low voltage
Float arm stuck

ENGINE OIL TEMPERATURE GAUGE

Defective indicator or
transmitter
REMEDY
Test generator for output.
Overhaul or replace if necessary.
Test instrument and replace, if
necessary.
Replace tachometer generator.
Check fuel quantity. Service with
proper grade and amount of fuel.
Check circuit breaker. Inspect for
open circuit. Reset breaker, repair
or replace defective wire.
Check for partial ground between
transmitter and indicator. Repair
or replace defective wire.
Check voltage at indicator.
Correct voltage.
Substitute known-good indicator.
Replace indicator.
Replace sending unit
Substitute known-good indicator.
Replace indicator.
Check voltage at indicator.
Correct voltage.
Free float arm.
Replace instrument or transmitter.
