Glossary
Bit rate – Speed of data transfer – How many bits of information are sent
each second.
Buffering – Data downloading and being assembled before playback.
Codec – [Coder/Decoder] Software capable of encoding and/or decoding
a digital data stream or signal.
DHCP – [Dynamic Host Control Protocol] – A protocol for assigning IP
addresses to devices on a network.
DNS Server – A remote server that provides the translation of web addresses
into the corresponding numeric IP addresses.
SSID – The name associated with your wireless network.
Ethernet – Network technology for local area networks. CAT5 cable carries
information between computers at a rate of 10/100/1000 megabits per
second.
File format – The type of file e.g. a music file in the format of mp3.
