Product Information
Installing the Outboard
WARNING
The
outboard
installed. Failure to correctly install the
outboard could result in serious injury,
death or property damage. We strongly
recommend that your Dealer install
your outboard to ensure proper instal-
lation.
IMPORTANT: Follow all directions carefully.
The outboard's warranty will not cover prod-
uct damage or failure that results from incor-
rect outboard installation.
WARNING
Even if equipped with clamp screws,
your outboard must be bolted to the
boat to prevent it from "working off the
transom" during operation.
Use Evinrude/Johnson Genuine Parts mount-
ing hardware to ensure proper installation. In-
structions are packed with the mounting kit
and are repeated here.
Mounting hardware
Center the outboard on the boat's transom
and over the transom plate if one is used.
Tighten the clamp screws by hand only.
Drill two 11/32 in. (8,7 mm) holes through the
boat's transom on each side of the outboard
using the stern bracket holes as guides.

Apply a good waterproof caulk to bolt shanks.
Insert the bolts through the stern bracket and
transom. Loosen clamp screws and apply
caulk on and around bolts between stern
brackets and transom to keep water out of the
drilled holes.
Retighten clamp screws. Install the large
washers and two of the locknuts on the bot-
tom bolts. Install the small washers and the
other two locknuts on the top bolts. Tighten all
nuts securely.

After 30 minutes of operation, retighten clamp
screws by hand. DO NOT use tools to tighten
clamp screws. Check clamp screws regularly.
WARNING
When replacing bolts, screws, or other
fasteners, use Evinrude/Johnson parts
or parts of equivalent strength and
material.
