  • Page 14 Remove all the protective materials packed around and inside your printer first, then place the printer on the table. Save all packing and protective materials in case you need to ship the printer in the future. It should always be transported in its original packaging or equivalent materials.

    Opening printer stand Unpack the printer from the carton. Open the printer stand and place it properly on a flat surface as shown. You can also operate the printer without the stands. All four stands when opened fully will give you additional space for loading continuous stationery below the printer as and when required.

    Connecting the printer to power Power supply unit of TVS Proton is housed externally as a separate unit. It has to be connected to the main Printer unit, through the power supply socket positioned at the back, just below the parallel port.

    4. L OADING THE PAPER Your printer provides a variety of paper paths for printing on continuous, roll paper and single-sheet paper. As described below, paper can be fed into the printer from the top, front or rear. You can select the paper path that best suits your current printing needs.

    Loading continuous stationery Set the Paper Select Lever to the front position for continuous stationery printing . Then follow the instructions as given below: Open the sprocket units on both sides by pulling the sprocket flab up.
  • Page 28 Place the stationery on the sprocket properly and close the sprocket flab. Please note that you have to align the stationery perfectly to avoid paper jam. To adjust the printer for various paper size, pull up the lever at the bottom of the sprocket and move the sprocket to the desired length.

    6. M AINTENANCE Cleaning your printer To keep your TVS Proton operating at its best, you need to clean it periodically. Before cleaning: Make sure the printer is switched off. Switch off the mains power supply, unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet.

    Preserving the ribbon cassette To ensure a long life for your cassette and optimum performance from your TVS Proton, Keep the new ribbon cassette in its packaging untill you are ready to install it. Remove the ribbon and TVS Inkbank only if necessary.

    Shifting the printer The following steps should be followed for shifting / transporting the printer from one location to another location. Unplug the power supply. Detach the external power adapter. Detach interface cable from the printer. Remove any paper loaded in the printer. Make sure the Printhead is not HOT.

    DOs and DON’Ts Do place the printer on uniform surface. Do use TVS-E Genuine Ribbons and Inkbanks, for better print quality and long Printhead life. Rotate the ribbon in the direction shown on the ribbon cassette. Do adjust head gap while using multi-part stationery. Always stack the continuous sheet below the printer stand to avoid paper jam.

    Power supply problems Printer power switch is ON, but light on the front panel remains OFF Turn off the printer, and make sure the power cord is firmly plugged into the electric outlet and the printer.     13. G LOSSARY ASCII American Standard Code for Information Interchange. A standardized coding system for assigning numeral codes to letters and symbols. Bi-directional printing Printing in which the print head prints in both directions (bidirectionally), from left to right and then right to left. This increases the print speed but may reduce precise vertical alignment.
  • Page 78 ESC/P Abbreviation for PROTON standard code for printers, the system of commands your computer uses to control your printer. It is standard for all PROTON printers and supported by most application software for personal computers. ESC/P2 The enhanced version of the ESC/P printer command language.
  • Page 79 Fanfold paper See continuous paper. Font A style of type designated by a name such as Roman or Sans Serif. Form feed (FF) It advances the paper to the next top-of-form position.
