E
ECM
Error Correction Mode. Reduces system and line errors when sending or receiving
from fax machines that have ECM capability. When using ECM, the unit checks each
page of incoming or outgoing faxes for lost data; when it finds data that has been lost
from a portion of a page, the unit transmits that portion again after confirming that all
data within that portion can be transmitted successfully.
F
Factory default
The MultiPASS L90 is preprogrammed in the factory with settings that we
recommend. These are known as Factory Default Settings. You can customise your
MultiPASS L90 by programming settings other than the Factory Default Settings.
FAX/TEL Auto Switch
This feature automatically detects whether a call is from a fax machine or a telephone.
If the call is from a fax machine, the unit is automatically received; if the call is from a
telephone, the unit rings and you can answer the call using the handset. This feature
allows the unit to use a single line for both fax and phone calls, and also enables you
to use these variations:
Voice answering: When the MultiPASS L90 receives a call, it responds with a built-
in voice message: "You are connected. Please hold."
Ring back tone: When using FAX/TEL switching, it takes the unit a few seconds to
switch to the phone. During those seconds, the unit sends an artificial ring back
tone to the caller.
Silent reception: The unit receives faxes without ringing.
G
G3
Defined by CCITT. Uses encoding schemes to transmit image data while reducing the
amount of data that needs to be transmitted, thus reducing transmission time. G3 fax
machines can transmit one page in less than one minute. Encoding schemes for G3 fax
machines are Modified Huffman (MH), Modified READ (MR), and Modified
Modified READ (MMR).
Group dialling
Allows you to dial up to 119 one-touch speed dialling or coded speed dialling numbers
at once.
I
Interface cable
The cable used to create the interface between a printer and a computer.
