D Using the Built-in Flash
A FE LockN
FE (flash exposure) lock obtains and locks the appropriate flash
exposure for the desired part of the image.
If the subject is too far away and beyond the effective flash range, the <D>
icon will blink. Move closer to the subject and repeat steps 2 to 4.
FE lock is not possible with Live View shooting.

Press the <D> button.

The built-in flash will be raised.
Press the shutter button halfway and
look through the viewfinder to check
that the <D> icon is lit.
Focus on the subject.

Press the <B> button.

Aim the viewfinder center over the
subject where you want to lock the
flash exposure, then press the
<B> button.
The flash will fire a preflash and the
required flash output is calculated
and retained in memory.
In the viewfinder, "FEL" is displayed for
a moment and <d> will light up. Also,
the flash exposure level indicator will
be displayed as shown on the left.
Each time you press the <B> button,
a preflash is fired and the flash output is
calculated and retained in memory.
Take the picture.

Compose the shot and press the
shutter button completely.
The flash is fired when the picture is taken.
