UCR (under color removal). Conversion of neutral color areas into black ink. Reduces the use of CMY inks,
improves trapping, and reduces setup time. Generally, UCR is performed during image scanning, but some RIPs
perform UCR during processing. Also known as GCR.

Warmup paper-conditioning state. Pre-heating is on and the engine is in Standby state. When the temperature of
the heated roll is at its required setpoint, the paper web can be started.
warning. A message in black text in the Active Alarms window, which indicates a situation that could eventually
cause a problem. An example is a full toner waste bottle.
water-cooling circuit. A circuit that keeps the writing heads at a constant temperature to ensure stable performance.
web. Roll of paper used in web or rotary printing.
web-direction markers. Markers located on a control strip to show the moving direction of the paper web.
web-drive speed roll. A roll at the bottom of the Y tower.
web-drive torque roll. A roll in the fixed tower below the fuser cooling unit.
web tension. (1) The tension of the paper web between the brake system and the speed motor and between the
speed motor and the torque motor. (2) The window used to monitor web tension and to adjust the torque of the torque
motor.
workspace. The area of the monitor's operator interface screen in which you will work in various windows to perform
tasks.
writing-head cleaning tool. A felt-tipped edge tool used to clean the lens of the writing heads.
X
X tower. The area of the print tower that contains the four print stations for printing the X (front) side of a page. The
X tower is located at the end near the paper supply. The side printed by the X tower is face up exiting the printer.
xerography. Dry printing process using corona-charged photoconductive surfaces to hold latent images that are
developed with a dry toner, which is then transferred to paper and fused with heat.
XPOSE. Graphical user interface for various operator functions in the printer. Control of printer registration and
density, monitoring of engine status, job settings and submission to print engine, and some service functions are all
performed through this GUI.
Y
Y tower. The area of the print tower that contains the four print stations for printing the Y (back) side of a page. The
Y tower is located between the X tower and the fixed tower. The side printed by the Y tower is face down exiting the
printer.
