MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet). International standards describing how to handle and dispose of chemical
substances.
MB. Megabyte or 1 048 576 bytes (1 000 KB) of data.
menu bar. Contains several menu items used to access the functions needed to operate the printer.
Mount Paper Roll window. The window used to progress through the steps to change a roll of paper.
N
night conditioning. The electronic control of the temperature in the print tower during the night or during idle time.
Relative humidity is not controlled during night conditioning.
O
Open at startup. A Preferences window selection that opens the APIS connection with the PES automatically when
the operator interface is started.
operating system CD. Recovery CD for re-installing the RIP controller operating system and system utilities. This
CD is specially licensed and configured for this purpose only.
organic photoconductor. The light sensitive coating that holds the latent image drawn by the LED array; essentially
the 'emulsion' of the printing plate.
Orientation. A page-setup parameter used to rotate output. Output can be rotated 0, 90, 180, or 270 degrees. The
pages rotate counterclockwise relative to their orientation when the job was created.
P
page-setup parameters. Parameters, such as page size, that describe a job for output to the printer. These
parameters are specified in the Page Setup window.
Page size. A page-setup parameter that specifies the signature size to use when the pages of a job are RIPed.
Conditioning. The window used to monitor and adjust parameters that affect paper conditioning, tower conditioning,
and the fusing system.
paper conditioning system. Part of the Paper Supply that uses a heated roll and a cooling unit to dry the paper to
a certain moisture content.
paper cooling circuit. A circuit located in the paper supply that first dries the paper with a heated roll and then
blows air on the paper to lower its temperature.
paper roll. See web.
paper roll axle. The device inserted through the core of a paper roll to support the paper roll in the printer. A paper
roll axle can be adjusted to support six different paper widths.
paper setting. A setting the operator changes when a different type of paper is loaded. Paper settings are changed
by running script files.
paper supply. Holds the paper roll, maintains web tension, heats the paper, and checks paper moisture content.
Splicing of paper rolls occurs here.
paper-supply alignment. Moving the paper supply perpendicular to the web movement to correct the alignment of
the paper supply to the print tower.
PDF (printer description file). Defined by Quark for use only with QuarkXpress. This file contains information, such
as page size, that is specific for a given output device.
Performance Monitor. A window used to monitor CPU usage and memory used during the RIPing process.
