2. Once a month, check the switch for proper opera-
tion. With engine running, pull lanyard. If the en-
gine does not stop, see your Four Winns Dealer.
3. Once a month, inspect both the clip and lanyard
for cuts, breaks or wear. Replace worn or dam-
aged parts.
In an emergency situation, any occupant of the boat
can restart the engine. Just press in and hold the
emergency stop switch button, then follow normal
starting procedures. When the button is released,
the engine will stop.
Avoid knocking or pulling the clip or lan yard
from the switch during regular boat ing opera-
tion. Occu pants may be thrown forward or
possible engine damage may occur by the
sud den loss of engine pow er.
K. Alarm Systems
Engine alarm systems are standard. The alarm is
audi ble and is actuated by various engine sensors.
The sensors monitor such things low oil pressure, high
water temperature levels and high exhaust manifold
temperatures. Consult your engine owner's manual for
informa tion regarding the specific systems monitored
by the alarm.
L. Compass
A compass is standard on the SL models. See Figure E8.
The compass can provide directional information when
oper ating offshore, in unfamiliar waters, or in adverse
weath er conditions.
Figure E8: Compass
Engines and Instrumentation - Section E
The compass must be properly calibrated after all
personal equipment is installed including all electron-
ics (radio, depth sounder, etc.). DO NOT rely on the
compass readings until initial adjust ment (compensa-
tion) has been performed. If the boat has a factory-
installed compass, the manu factur er's instructions are
provided in the owner's packet. Most areas have local
com panies that special ize in compass adjustment. If
unsure of the proper compensation techniques,
consider having the adjustment done professional ly to
ensure accuracy and confi dence in the compass.
NOTICE
During use, keep all extraneous metal objects
away from the compass. The close proximity of
metal objects (e.g., beverage cans) can cause
compass devi a tion.
M. GPS/Map
A GPS/Map is an elec tronic system through which
a naviga tor can deter mine his posi tion regardless of
weather. The GPS sensor receives high frequency
radio signals generated from satellites to generate
coordinate readings on the display. The GPS naviga-
tional unit takes this information and uses it to deter-
mine the vessel's exact position and indicates the
vessels position on the chart plotter. The chart plotter
allows one's course to be plotted electronically.
Factory installed GPS/Map system is the optional
navigational package offered for certain SL models.
It is mounted at the helm. See Figure E9. If equipped,
refer to the manu fact urer's literature included in the
owner's packet.
