3. DSC OPERATION FOR NON-DISTRESS CASES
3.1.1

Sending a coast or ship call

1. Press the CALL key. The display changes from the standby display to the
COMPOSE MESSAGE screen and the CALL TYPE is displayed in reverse
video.

COAST ID : 003456789
ROUTINE
COMM MODE : TELEPHONE
COMM OPTION : NO INFO
CH : NO INFO
ACK REQ

: If the coast or ship ID is registered in FILE, the registered name is
displayed. If no registered, blank.
2. Press the ENT key to open the call type list.
3. Rotate the CH knob (or press up / down arrow key) to choose COAST CALL
or SHIP CALL and press the ENT key.
4. ID is selected; press the ENT key.
5. Key in a coast ID or ship ID number as appropriate and press the ENT key.
6. ROUTINE is selected; press the ENT key.
7. Choose ROUTINE, SAFETY, or URGENCY as appropriate followed by
pressing the ENT key.
COAST CALL/ROUTINE: The COMM OPTION and CH are fixed to NO
INFO. Go to step 8 to set the COMM MODE.
SHIP CALL/ROUTINE: The COMM OPTION is fixed to NO INFO. Go to step
8 to set the COMM MODE.
SAFETY: The COMM MODE and COMM OPTION are fixed to TELEPHONE
and NO INFO, respectively. Go to step 10 to set the channel.
URGENCY: The COMM MODE, COMM OPTION and CH are fixed to
TELEPHONE, NO INFO and 16, respectively. Go to step 13 to transmit the
message.
