Installing Power Supplies

OmniSwitch 6850 Series power supply can be installed in the following ways:
As a primary or backup supply directly connected to the back of an OmniSwitch 6850 Series chassis.
See

As a primary or backup supply connected with a cable. See
on page 2-81
for more information.
DC power supplies require additional installation steps. See
page 2-85
for more information.
Anti-Static Warning. Before handling any components, free yourself of static by wearing a grounding
strap, or by grounding yourself properly. Static discharge can damage the switch and the backup power
supply.

Connecting a Power Supply Directly to the Chassis

Follow the steps below to connect a power supply directly (i.e., without a cable) to the back of an
OmniSwitch 6850 Series chassis:

Place the chassis and power supply on a smooth, clean, and dry surface.

Optional. Follow steps a and b to install the power shelf.
a Carefully slide the power shelf so that it is flush against the back of the chassis.
b Tighten the two captive screws located on the left and right sides of the power shelf.
