5.12 Replacing/Adjusting Casters

WARNING!
– Changing the size/type of and/or repositioning the
front casters can affect the performance of the
wheelchair.
– Contact Invacare at the telephone numbers on the
back of this manual before performing this procedure.
– Non-suspension casters cannot be adjusted as they
mount in one position.
Suspension Caster
1.
Perform one of the following:
Non-Suspension Fork - Remove the bolt A and locknut B
that secure the front caster C to the fork D.
Suspension Fork - Perform the following steps:
a.
Using two allen wrenches, turn in opposite directions
and remove one mounting screw A from the fork B.

Remove the mounting screw/threaded sleeve C
assembly that secures the front caster D and two
spacers E to the fork B.
Remove front caster C and axle spacers E from fork D.

Perform one of the following:
Non-Suspension Fork - Install the new caster C, bolt A,
locknut B and axle spacers E onto the fork D and securely
tighten.
Suspension Fork - Perform the following steps:
Determine the desired mounting hole F for the caster

installation.
b.
Line up the front caster C and two spacers E with the
mounting hole F in the fork D.
Reinstall the mounting screw/threaded sleeve C

assembly through the fork D, front caster C and two
spacers E.
Reinstall the mounting screw A into the threaded sleeve and

tighten securely.
– If replacing front casters with a different size than
what was originally on the wheelchair, the front caster
height MUST be adjusted to keep the wheelchair
frame parallel to the floor. The size of the rear wheels
may also need adjustment.

5.13 Wheel Lock Adjustment/Replacement

– Before adjusting or replacing the High/Low mount
wheel locks, ensure that the tires are inflated to the
recommended psi on the sidewall of the tire.
