Reinstalling Windows

If the data on the hard disk becomes corrupted or is erased, follow the procedure
below to return it to its factory default condition. There are two reinstallation
methods, one for beginners and the other for advanced users.
Method for beginners:
Method for advanced users:
CAUTION
Reinstalling the operating system will delete any data that was already on the hard disk. Be
sure to back up any necessary data to PD cartridges, floppy disks or the like before proceeding.
Once the reinstallation process has begun, do not interrupt it before completion, power off the
computer, or put the computer into the suspend or hibernation mode. Doing any of the above
could prevent a successful reinstallation.
Disconnect all peripheral devices including PC cards from the computer before beginning
reinstallation.
When you run re-installation, the display will rarely black out.
In this case, please follow the steps below.

Switch the power off by pressing
Insert the "Firstaid FD" into the floppy disk drive and turn the computer on.

Select "Boot".

Type the following.

CD A:\MKD

Follow the "Method for advanced users".
For Beginners (Returning to near-factory default settings)
With the power off, insert the "FirstaidFD" into the floppy disk drive. Then, turn the power on.

The following screen will appear:
1. Boot
2. Restore HDD to factory default
Select option 1.
Type the following:
SETUP61 /F
61
SETUP62 /F
62
The following screen will appear:

Select option 2.
From this point on, follow the instructions on the display. When your computer asks you to insert

the "Firstaid CD", Please do so.
The computer will be restarted several times during the reinstallation process. When an indica-

tion appears on the screen after a restart, select option 2.
When your computer asks you to insert the "Windows 95 CD", Please do so.

Windows 95 setup is started.
Follow the instructions on the display. (Note: This step takes approximately one hour.)

Always select the default settings. (Make sure to install to the C:\Windows folder. From the
"Analyzing Your Computer" screen, check the "Sound, MIDI, or video capture card" item.)
Have a blank floppy disk ready and use it to create a Startup Disk.
After creating the Startup Disk, remove it from the drive. And then, insert the "Firstaid FD"
and click [OK].
All data remaining on the hard disk is erased and the hard disk is
restored to its factory default condition.
If the hard disk has been divided into multiple partitions, only the
basic MS-DOS partition is restored to its factory default condition.
This method requires a basic MS-DOS partition of 200 MB or larger
on the C: drive. Use the FDISK command to confirm whether the
basic MS-DOS partition is active.
