Removing/Replacing a Cartridge Tape in a Storage Cell
When manually placing cartridge tapes in storage cells, replace the cartridge right
side up (writing on top) with the VOLSER label facing out, as shown in
Figure 3–6.

Mounting a Cartridge into a Drive

To manually mount a cartridge tape into a tape drive, the load latch must be up,
which indicates the drive is open. The drive hub should be retracted when the load
latch is up, allowing a cartridge to slide into the opening. Figure 3–7 shows the
front of a tape drive with the load latch down (drive closed—loaded position) and
the load latch up (drive open—unloaded position).
Note: Move the load latch only with power to the drive and the green Operate
DLT Library
Handle LED (Figure 3–9) on the drive face solid on (not flashing). The
latch has a breakaway feature to prevent damage. If it breaks away, return
it to one of the positions shown in Figure 3–7.
