Chapter 7
IOPn.MtcEthP status: Error resetting Network Interface Controller.
Severity
Error
Description
The Ethernet Provider was unable to reset the NIC. The Event Viewer Data section contains
the Windows NT (NdisReset) error code. The Ethernet Provider fails the primary device and
activates the standby device.
Action
This is usually a software error that can be corrected by rebooting the IOP. Refer to Chapter 9
in
IOP. In this case, you want to power cycle the IOP when you reboot it.
IOPn.MtcEthP status: Error transferring incoming Ethernet packet to the receive buffer.
Severity
Warning
Description
The adapter was unable to copy an Ethernet packet to a receive buffer owned by the Ethernet
Provider. The Event Viewer Data section contains the Windows NT (NdisTransferData) error
code.
This message usually occurs because the NIC was reset while a receive was in progress.
Hardware/Software
A large number of transfer errors can indicate a problem with the NIC.
IOPn.MtcEthP status: Ethernet adapter current address mismatch.
Severity
Error
Description
This message is logged during IOP joining, when the joining Ethernet Provider receives a join
response from the merging Ethernet Provider. The current Ethernet addresses in use by the
physical Network Interface Controllers that comprise the logical Ethernet device are not
identical. The Ethernet device on the joining IOP is set to failed. The Ethernet Provider obtains
the current Ethernet address by performing an NDIS Request query operation
(OID_802_3_CURRENT_ADDRESS) to the NIC.
Action
Run the HP NetServer AA Configuration Utility on all IOPs, and verify the NIC address
specified for the logical device.
By default, a NIC driver uses the Ethernet address that is encoded in the hardware. Under
Windows NT, an optional network address value can be defined in the Registry to override the
hardware default. This value is defined under the subkey
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\
adapter name#\Parameters, and is normally defined by the HP NetServer AA
Configuration Utility. The value is obtained during system boot when the NIC driver initializes
the controller, and the IOP must be rebooted to change the current Ethernet address.
