The section describes how to mount, wire and clean touch panels. Figure 3 shows a sample system application using an AXT-CP and AXCESS Control System. The PC shown in the illustration is optional, and only used to upload or download touch panel pages and drawings.
Mounting the Touch Panel The following describes how to mount the AXU-CP or AXU-CP/PB with a low- profile back box, an AXU-CP or AXU-CP/PB in the BB-TP2 UniMount back box, and AXM-CP or AXM-CP/PB in an equipment rack. Lay the touch panel face down onto a soft cloth and remove the four screws from the low-profile back box.

The RS-232, AXlink, and PWR (power supply) connectors are located on the rear panel of the AXT-CP as shown in Figure 11. The connectors are located in the top- right corner of the UniMount and rack-mount touch panels as shown in Figure 12.
Guidelines Caution The touch panels require 12 VDC power to operate properly. The AXCESS Control System supplies power via the AXlink cable or external 12 VDC power supply. The Do not connect power to the touch panel until the wiring is maximum wiring distance between the control system and touch panel is complete.

Using the RS-232 connector for mouse control or data The dual-function RS-232 (DB-9) connector supports most standard serial mouse control devices and RS-232 communication protocols for PC data transmission. Refer to the TPDOC Instruction Manual for data transmission information. Figure 16 lists RS-232 (DB-9) connector specifications and Figure 17 shows the RS- 232 (DB-9) connector and power supply wiring diagram.
Cleaning the Touch Panel Overlay After installing the touch panel, you should clean the touch overlay as follows: Disconnect all connectors from the touch panel. Using a cotton cloth, spray a small amount of cleaning solution consisting of 50- percent isopropyl alcohol and 50-percent water onto the cloth. Clean the touch overlay with the damp cloth.

Touch Panel Program Reference Overview You can use the Setup page, Protected Setup page, and Editor Bar operations to create touch panel pages. The AXlink button is an AXCESS communication indicator that blinks once every second when the AXCESS Control System is connected to the touch panel. The vX.XX button shows the current ROM software version installed in the touch panel.

The page lists the devices that respond to the AXC-EM Enhanced Master card in the AXCESS Control System. When all devices respond, a message appears on the screen stating that all programmed and extra devices are present. EXIT Returns to the Setup page. QUIZ Refreshes the list with a new device list.

Auto assign Press the AUTO ASSIGN button to assign channel code numbers for new buttons. Channel code numbers are used by the touch panel and AXCESS Control System to keep track of operations you assign to each button. Auto Assign is on when the button background is black with white text, and off when the button background is white with black text ( Figure 102).

MOUSE Sets the touch panel for mouse control. The mouse control is on when the button background is black with white text, and off when the button background is white with black text. SPEED Increases or decreases the movement speed of the mouse pointer with the up and down buttons.

If you try to open a password-protected page, the keypad appears and you must enter the correct password to open the new page. Refer to Password Page Flips in the Editor Bar subsection to set the attributes for password protection. CLEAR Clears the keypad number.

ROTATE CW Rotates the symbol clockwise. CHANGE COLOR Resets the color of the current symbol. The button changes to SELECT COLOR TO CHANGE after you touch it. SELECT COLOR TO CHANGE Memorizes the color you select as the color you want to change in the current symbol. The button changes to SELECT NEW COLOR after you select the color.

Choose one of the icon options. JOYSTICK Sets the icon to a four-quadrant joystick button with a control stick located in the center. When you move the control stick, the touch panel sends feedback (data) to the control system and to the external device to perform a pre-programmed operation.
You can also move and resize a button that contains a drawing. The AMX TPDOC program can create various drawing sizes and transmit the drawings to your touch panel. Drawing names are selected from a menu similar to the page name list.

Contact your AMX dealer before you replace the lithium batteries and verify that static electricity from your body and flat-blade tool by touching they have a current copy of the pages stored in the touch panel. This will avoid any a grounded metal object.

Gently tilt the circuit card down towards the connector side and pull backwards until you clear the connector housing. Then, slowly rotate the circuit card backwards until you can lay it down flat with the batteries exposed. Figure 202 shows the batteries on the AXT-CP circuit card. Rotate the circuit card back to the original position and place it in the touch panel housing. Align the screw hole and insert the Phillips-head screw and tighten. Place the bottom panel on the touch panel and align the screw holes. Insert the seven Phillips-head screws and tighten.

Remove the four circuit card spacers. Carefully pry one battery out of its socket and insert the new battery. Return the touch panel to the back box or equipment rack and connect the power or AXlink connector back into the rear side of the panel for approximately 1 minute.
