if you are having problems with YOurVCR, check the following list of problems and possible solutions before
requesting service.You may be able to solve the problem yourself.
If you need to call a customer service representative, please know the model number and serial number of
your product before you call. This information is displayed on the back of the product. Also, please take a
moment to identify the problem you are having, and be prepared to explain this to the representative.
If
you believe the representative will need to help you with operations, please stay near the product. Our
representatives will be happy to assist you.
TheVCR
has no power.
• Make sure the power plug is completely connected to an AC (alternating
current) oudet.
• Make sure the power is turned on.
A power failure occurred.
• Selecta language and set up channels, if prompted to do so. Detailsare on pages I I - 12 and 19.Reset the
clock.Detailsare on pages 13 - 17.You may also need to reprogram your timer recordings. Detailsere on
pages34 - 39.
The VCR cannot be controlled with the remote control.
• Aim the remote control directly at theVCR's remote sensor. D etailsare on pages5 and 22.
• Removeall obstaclesbetween the remote control and theVCR,
• Inspectand/or replace the batteriesin the remote control. Detailsare on page 5.
• Press theVCR button,then try the other buttons.
TheVCR
does not respond normally to the remote control. (For example, theVCR
may
change channels multiple times when you press the CH(annel)
• button once.)
• Installnew batteries (preferablyalkaline)in the remote control.
TheVCR
will not perform a timer recording.
• Make sure the recording start and stop times are set correctly.Detailsare on pages34 - 39.
• Make sure there is a tape in theVCR.
• Make sure the tape hasa record tab. Detailsare on page 5.
• Make suretheVCR power is off.
• Make sure the clock is set.Detailsare onpages 13 - 17.
• TheVCR may not perform or continuea timer recording if a power interruptionof more than l0 min-
utes occurs,even if the power comesback on. If timer recordings are lost,- - : - - shouldappearon the
displaypanel.But, evenif you do not see this indicationand theVCR operatesnormally,checkpro-
grammedtimer recordings.
• When you turn on theVCR after a power failure,this on-screenmessagemayappear: POWER FAILURE
OCCURRED/TIMER MEMORY CLEARED (IF PROGRAMMED)/PLEASE SET PROGRAMSTO BE
RECORDED/TO END PUSH EXIT. First, reset the clock.Detailsare onpages 13 - 17.Then, set up chan-
nels.Detailsore on pages I I - 12. Finally,programthe timer recordings again. D etails are on pages34 - 39.
• Finishprogramminga timer recordingat leastfive minutesbefore the recordingis scheduled to begin.
• If two timer recordingsoverlap,CLASH will appearon-screen.Theearlier programhaspriority;the later
programwill not be recorded.
• If the VCR power isturned off for a timer recording and there isn'ta tape in the VCR, the (_) and
Cassette-Inside lightswill blink on the display panel.
• If the record tab on a tape is missing and you turn off theVCR to set a timer
recording,
theVCR wil!
eject the tape.The (_ and Cassette-Insidelights will blink on the display panel.
• Noon is i2 p.m.;midnightis 12 a.m.
• Enter the Cable Box/DBS output channel(03 or 04) at step 3 on page 36,then selectthe channelto be
recorded at the Cable BoxJDBS, L eavethe Cable Box/DBS on for the timer recording.
Tape can't be inserted.
• Insert the tape window side up,with the record tab facingyou.
• Make sure a tape isn'talreadyin theVCR by pressing the STOP/EJECTbutton on theVCR or the EJECT
b_l,tson on the remote control.
• Gently pushthe center of the tape asyou put it in theVCR. Never force a tape into theVCR.
